Avery began his career as a multimedia designer for Bravo!Marketing in San Francisco. He built his design skills crafting brands and interactive experiences for new internet businesses in both consumer and B2B markets. In 2001 Avery joined Stone Yamashita Partners (SY Partners) where he produced and designed the production of immersive environments, print collateral, video, presentations, and educational and interactive media. In 2004 Avery devoted himself to his design consultancy full-time while pursuing his MFA in Photography and Sculpture at Mills College. During and after completing his MFA, Avery continued his professional practice as a creative director and designer and later held an Assistant Professorship of art and design at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. In 2015 Avery left academia to pursue his passion for design full-time, and relocated to Chicago with his husband Rob. He is currently a Strategist / Creative Director at Health Brand Group. Over the course of his career he has worked for Netflix, Facebook, HP, PWC Consulting, Nike, US AID, Gap Inc., eBay, CocaCola, Armani Exchange, and Patron Spirits. He holds a BAIA in Multimedia from San Francisco State University and an MFA in Art from Mills College.
